Descendant of the Declaration of Independence Celebrates Memorial Day with Family
A descendant of the Declaration of Independence lives in the Southern Tier and is celebrating Memorial Day with his family.
Mel Livingston -- great grandson of Phil Livingston -- one of the four signers of the Declaration of Independence lives in Endwell and went to Binghamton High School. His daughter Cindy is the New York Governor for the Descendants of Signers and this is one of the big days wheN the family gets together and talks about their beloved history.
"We have three meetings a year and the July 4th meeting is the big meeting where the descendants are able to tap the liberty bell, said Endwell resident, Mel Livingston.
"My dad has done a wonderful job cause he has researched all of his stuff to find all of the connections," said Cindy Livingston-Scordino, New York State Governor for Descendants of Signers of the Declaration of Independence.
They are also related to Robert Livingston as well. He negotiated the Louisiana Purchase from the French.
