Vestal Community Celebrates Veterans in Memorial Day Parade

In Vestal, residents gathered at the Four Corners Gazebo on Vestal Parkway to remember family and friends who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The ceremony was led by American Legion 89 as veteran Patrick Ulmen led the crowd in prayer and Doc sang the national anthem and America the Beautiful. There was also a 21 gun salute to remember the fallen service members who gave it all for their country.

"It's service above self. that's what we really appreciate and we hope that people can take it forward and move it forward and help everyone in this country and make it as good as it is," said Fran Majewski, Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Vestal.

"A veteran is the only one that when he signs up to serve, he signed up to give his life for his employer. If you think about it that way, it's true. We have had a whole lot of folks that have paid that price. It's good to remember," said Patrick Ulmen, a USS Trout Navy Veteran.

Ulmen's father served in the navy when he was a kid. He says he is happy that our youth have been recognizing its veterans across the United States.
