Interactive Animal Adventure Park Welcomes New Member

Thousands attend the third season grand opening for the interactive Animal Adventure park in Harpursville and this year there's a new addition to the park's family.

Almost three years old, weighing in at more than 1,200 pounds and about 12 feet tall -- Oliver the giraffe is the newest animal to join more than 75 species at the Animal Adventure interactive park. And the park's owner Jordan Patch says he fits right in.

"He's adjusted great to the crowds, we've had just about 2,000 visitors over the past three days and he's being as well received as he is receiving people," said Animal Adventure Owner Jordan Patch.

Oliver came from a similar park in Ohio which helped him to adapt to his new home easily.

And being Animal Adventure's only giraffe, Patch says Oliver isn't just unique in the park.

Oliver is the first giraffe in the Broome County area in more than 50 years.

And he enjoys snacking on carrots.

Local resident Kathy Harasta and her grandson Vlad both couldn't wait to feed Oliver.

"He was wonderful, it was a lot of fun feeding him. He had the strangest tongue; a very, very strange tongue, but it was a lot fun," said Endicott resident Kathy Harasta.

And for those who have a romantic side Oliver will be receiving a lady friend.

"He will certainly be paired up with another giraffe, hopefully before the end of our season this year. Our goal here is to definitely have a pair of giraffes and produce offspring," said Patch.

It's safe to say that Oliver will be a tall source of attraction for the park for some time to come.

If you'd like to visit Oliver and other animal attractions at the park, it is now open daily from 10 a.m.to 5:00 p.m.
