Vestal Police Department Honors Officers and Residents

Vestal police officers and community members were recognized this evening during an award ceremony.

Tonight at the Vestal Town Hall those graduating from the first annual Citizens Police Academy were given a certificate.

Those who took the ten week course learned about self defense, DWI, and the roles of bystanders.

Sargeant Kintner says that he believes that residents are now safer for having taken the course.

They are here to see first what it is that we've been discussing through out the ten weeks with the jobs that we do now and the certain things we respond to," said Sargeant Stace Kintner of the Vestal Police Department.

Vestal police officers were given awards tonight for going above the call of duty: for cases such as finding a meth lab, using a defibrillator to save a man's life and talking a man out of jumping off of a bridge.
