Mini Golf Tournament Held for Mental Health Awareness Month

Posted:
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and what better way to celebrate than with a game of mini golf!

The Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier, (MHAST) hosted its 2nd annual Squawking Parrot Mini Golf Tournament Saturday at Chuckster's in Vestal.

Twelve teams of four joined forces for some friendly competition. Each team could play for just $125 which included the tournament, prizes, lunch, dessert and full-day'sadmission to Chuckster's. Participants also dug out their best pirate costumes for a contest to win a gift basket donated by Confluence Running.

"We really do try to encourage mental wellness and this is one way that people can come out and do something fun in a community sense. We have a group here from our Compeer Program which is helping adults to assimilate into activities in the community and maybe they otherwise wouldn't have been out today," said Development Director for the Mental Health

The association raised more than $1,500. Proceeds will benefit MHAST youth mental health programs and services in the local community.

Future events for MHAST include Rock Against Suicide in July and a cooking competition this September.
