A Fire Causes Significant Damage to Johnson City Home

A fire causes significant damage to a two family home in Johnson City.

One neighbor says he and his friend rescued three dogs from the second story apartment when they saw the smoke pouring out of the house.
Crews were called to 179 Hudson Street around 4:30 this afternoon for a report of a structure fire.

Johnson City Fire Chief Rob Jacyna says no residents were home at the time of the blaze and no one was injured.

but, Christopher Thogode says when he saw the smoke, he knew the dogs would be inside.

"Me and my buddy knew that the family wasn't home, but she had dogs up there, so we ran up the back stairs and kicked the door in and smoke was pouring out. We got the dogs out and everything," said Chrisopher Thogode, a neighbor.

Jacyna says when fire crews from Binghamton and Johnson City arrived on scene the dogs were chained in the backyard.
Officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears to have started in the kitchen on the second floor.
