SUNY Broome Hosts an Event to Raise Awareness About Mental Illness

Posted:
Imagine what it would be like trying to fill out a job application or explaining directions to someone while at the same time hearing other voices in your head.

That's what participants in an event called "voices heard" were dealing with at the SUNY Broome campus. The Catholic Charities of Broome County's Southern Tier Connections Team along with the counseling and psychology departments at Broome sponsored the event to raise awareness for those suffering from severe mental illness.

Executive Director of Catholic Charities Lori Accardi said, "We just want people to know we're very eager to work with them we want them to make the choices in whatever help they receive and we want them to know that there's hope for them. We don't want them to feel as if there's no place to turn."
