GBFC Thunder fall in their first home game 3-2

The Greater Binghamton Futbol Club Thunder (GBFC Thunder) began their 2015 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) campaign with a tough 3-2 loss to the Jersey Blues Soccer Club in today’s home opener on Visions Field at the Greater Binghamton Sports Complex. The Thunder dominated the game statistically but could not convert their offensive opportunities.

The Jersey Blues struck suddenly for 2 goals in the first 6 minutes of the match. Although the Thunder controlled the play for most of the first half, they were only able to score once on a goal in the 11th minute by Tommy Moon. A second first half goal was called back when Thunder players were ruled off-sides. The score at halftime was Jersey Blues 2, GBFC Thunder 1. GBFC continued to control play in the second half, but it was not until the 77th minute of the game that Pat Thompson tied the score for the Thunder. The game continued tied into extra time when Jersey Blues’ Ryan Hurdes scored on a direct free kick from 20 yards out in the 94th minute. Ryan scored all 3 Jersey Blues goals.

The Thunder hits the road on Wednesday for a Lamar Hunt US Open Cup match against the Premier Development League (PDL) Western Mass Pioneers from Ludlow, Massachusetts and then returns home for an NPSL match next Saturday, 16 May, against Scranton’s Electric City Shock at 6 PM on Visions Field at the Greater Binghamton Sports Complex.
