King (of the Eastern League) walks off in B-Mets win

BINGHAMTON, NY - Jared King stroked a walk-off single up the middle in the ninth to push the Binghamton Mets past the Portland Sea Dogs, 5-4, on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. King's hit secured a four-game series split and a winning homestand. Josh Rodriguez carried the offense before King's single, plating four runs on a double and a home run.

With the game tied at four in the ninth, Eudy Pina worked out a walk against Pat Light, his second of the game and third of the season, and stole second as Albert Cordero struck out. King, pinch-hitting for Gilbert Gomez, bounced a 1-0 pitch up the middle and into center, plating Pina for Binghamton's second walk-off win of the season.

Binghamton overcame a pair of blown leads to earn the victory. The B-Mets struck first for the first time in the series, as Rodriguez drove in two runs with a two-out double to left field in the opening frame.

The lead was short-lived, as Portland struck for three a half-inning later. With one out, Blake Tekotte tripled to center field, driving in two. Portland took the lead two batters later on a sac fly by Mike Miller.

With Binghamton down one, Rodriguez struck again in the sixth, blasting a two-run homer off Robby Scott, his sixth of the season.

Once again, the B-Mets lead lasted just a half-inning. After quickly getting the first two outs of the seventh, Ynoa allowed a Jantzen Witte wall-ball double to left field, his third hit of the night. Oscar Tejada drove him in one batter later with a single to left field, ending Ynoa's night. Dario Alvarez came on and stuck out Keury De La Cruz to strand a man in scoring position.

Alvarez got in trouble in the eighth inning, allowing back-to-back one out baserunners. He was relieved by Paul Sewald, who was greeted with a Kevin Heller single to load the bases. Sewald proceeded to induce a 1-2-3 inning-ending double play from Mike Miller to get out of the jam, keeping the score tied at four.

Sewald (2-0) got the win, tossing 1-2/3 scoreless innings. Light (0-1) picked up the loss, allowing the walk-off base hit in his 1-2/3 innings of work.

The B-Mets (16-11) begin a six-game road trip and start a three-game series against the Akron RubberDucks on Friday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Luis Cessa gets the ball against RHP Mike Clevinger.
