Congressman Hanna Addresses Local Sportsmen About Gun Rights

Congressman Richard Hanna was in the Binghamton area Thursday speaking to sportsmen about a cause close to their hearts - gun rights, specifically the New York Safe Act.

That is the state's gun-control law passed in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut shooting. Hanna says any possible changes to gun laws need to strengthen the ability of law-abiding citizens to bear arms while keeping guns away from those with criminal or mental issues.

"As much as the SAFE Act in some people's mind has gone away, for people like the 800 members of the Broome County Association which I'm a member of, it's a big deal. I think it's worth talking about," said Hanna.

Hanna spoke at the Broome County Sportsmen's Association in Kirkwood. He has co-sponsored bills which would increase access to recreational fishing and hunting on federal land, and allowing for the interstate transportation of firearms.
