Broome County Government Efficiency Program May Save You Tax Dollars
Thursday, May 7, 2015 11:02 PM EDT
Could a government efficiency program put money in your pocket?
Under the plan, announced today by Broome County leaders, municipalities must stay below the tax cap, and they must submit a plan to save one percent on tax levies for 2017, 2018 and 2019.
That one percent equals about $1.5 million a year.
Broome County’s government efficiency plan would save over $3.2 million in annual savings. the plan is a requirement of the recent New York State Property Tax Rebate Program.
"And you may say well you know what 1% does not seem like much but for this group here it is 1.5 million dollars in addition savings each year," said Broome County Executive Debbie Preston.
The county's plan includes sharing services like public works, information technology and tax collection. Broome County's efficiency plan will be submitted to the State Division of Budget by June 1st.
