U.S. Attorney Recommends Jail Time for Matthew Libous, Convicted of Tax Fraud
The U.S. Attorney prosecuting Matthew Libous, son of state senator Tom Libous, is recommending jail time after the younger Libous' conviction on tax fraud in January.
Preet Bharara is suggesting Libous be sentenced to thirty three to forty one months in prison, saying Libous has not accepted responsibility for under reporting income.
Matthew Libous' attorney has asked the judge to spare his client jail time, including a number of letters in that request. One was from Senator Libous who asked his son be kept out of prison while the elder Libous battles terminal cancer.
Matthew Libous is scheduled to be sentenced on may 18th.
