STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Freshman outfielder Jessica Rutherford has been named the America East Softball Rookie of the Year. The announcement was made on Wednesday night at the conference's pre-tournament dinner.

Junior catcher Lisa Cadogan, junior first baseman Taylor Chaffee and junior outfielder Sydney Harbaugh were each named first-team all-conference. Rutherford joined freshman third baseman Kate Richard on the second team as well as Richard and freshman second baseman Stephanie Bielec on the All-Rookie Team.

"We are very proud of all of our all-conference selections," head coach Michelle Burrell said. "Each of them contributed to our success so far this year, but we know that it has been a true team effort and the individuals selected know their individual accomplishments could not be achieved without their teammates."

Rutherford currently ranks ninth in the conference with a .352 batting average and tied for third with three triples. She was named the America East Rookie of the Week on April 20 and April 27. Rutherford was the team leader with 13 multiple-hit games this season.

Binghamton has now posted the America East Rookie of the Year three times in the past six years. Jessica Phillips was selected in 2010 and Cadogan was the choice in 2013.

Cadogan and Harbaugh, meanwhile, each earned first-team honors for the third consecutive season. They are the second and third players in program history to be named America East first-team all-conference three times during their careers. Jessica Chellis was a first-team all-conference catcher from 2002-04.

Cadogan was second in the America East with a .438 batting average and is tied for first with a school-record 48 RBI. She also belted a team-best nine home runs, led the conference with a .599 on-base percentage and was second with a .830 slugging percentage. In addition, she tied for the conference lead with 15 doubles.

Harbaugh ranked No. 11 in the America East with a .346 batting average. She is also second in the conference with 23 stolen bases, fifth with a .473 on-base percentage and tied for first with 42 runs. Harbaugh was named the America East Player of the Week on March 10.

Chaffee, who was named second-team all-conference at catch last season, currently has seven home runs and 27 RBI. She has also posted a .417 on-base percentage and a .526 slugging percentage.

Richard finished the regular season with six home runs and 27 RBI. She was named both the America East Player and Rookie of the Week on Feb. 17. Her biggest hit of the season was a grand slam in the Bearcats' 11-6 win over Albany on April 19.

Bielec ranks fourth on the team with a .317 batting average. She started all 38 games at second base and had the winning hit in Binghamton's 5-4, eight-inning victory over Maine on Saturday that clinched the No. 3 seed in the America East Tournament.

Binghamton (20-18, 10-6 AE) is the No. 3 seed in the America East Tournament. The Bearcats face No. 2 Albany in a first-round game on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
