Broome County Highlights Mental Health & Recovery Programs

Recovery is achievable and maintainable. That was the message Wednesday at the Day of Recovery 2015.

The Broome County Dual Recovery Project and the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier hosted the event at the State Office Building in Binghamton. The program aimed to help those recovering from mental health issues or addiction, as well as their family members - who can have their own issues when caring for those dealing with mental illness or substance abuse. but, officials say, there is hope.

"People can be in long-term recovery. And if you have a family member or loved one or you yourself is struggling there is a lot of help available. And this community is really richly blessed with services and with self help," said Katherine Cusano, Deputy Commissioner of Mental Health for Broome County.

Cusano points to the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (or CPEP) at Binghamton General Hospital, as well as the Addiction Center of Broome County and New Horizons outpatient clinic as outlets for those who feel they have mental or addiction issues.
