State Police Investigate Town of Hancock Fatal Car Crash
A New Jersey man is dead after his car went into the Delaware River in the Town of Hancock.
State Police are still investigating the accident which they responded to just after 5:30 Tuesday morning. Police say 37-year-old Stephen Maikisch III of Somerset, New Jersey exited State Route 17 Westbound at exit 90 at a high rate of speed. They say his 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee drove through an intersection at the end of the ramp and crossed Harvard Road, striking a guard rail and several trees.
The jeep travelled about 200 feet from the road before coming to rest in the river. Police found the Jeep about 50 feet into the river half-submerged. Toxicology results are still pending.
