Senate Leader Skelos, Son Charged with Corruption

The leader of the New York State Senate and his son surrendered this morning as they were charged on six counts of extortion, accepting bribes and honest services fraud.

The complaint alleges that Dean Skelos used favors and influence to benefit a pair of companies. The charges allege that in return, Dean Skelos' son Adam Skelos received more than $200,000, while Dean Skelos received considerable political donations from one of those companies.

Skelos released a statement today saying,“I am innocent of the charges leveled against me. I am not saying I am just not guilty, I am saying that I am innocent. I fully expect to be exonerated by a public jury trial.”
