Horse Racing Season Getting Ready to Kick Off at Tioga Downs

The live harness racing season is about to get underway at Tioga Downs.

They will kick off their racing season on Saturday, the same day as the Kentucky Derby takes place. Guests are invited to don their derby style hats as they watch the race and then cheer on their favorite as Tioga Downs drivers take to the track for their horses first race of the season.

"We use it as an opportunity to throw the biggest party in the Southern Tier.
So people can come on out, put on their big derby hats, dress like they're at the derby at Churchill Downs. Our live racing begins at 5 pm, the Kentucky Derby is at 6:24. So we'll take a break put the derby on the big screen so everyone can watch and wager and hopefully cash some tickets on the derby and watch the rest of our live races on Saturday night," said Justin Horowitz, Regional Racing Marketing Manager, Tioga Downs.

Other special events taking place this summer at Tioga include a world chicken spiedie eating championship featuring hot dog champ Joey Chestnut on August 8th and the Roll with Joe Pace and Empire Breeders Classic Open on August 23rd.
