Chenango Company Breaks Ground on New Facility

Posted:
A Chenango County company is set to begin a $26 million dollar upgrade. It could mean new products and new jobs. Our Donnie Dwyer has more on the groundbreaking ceremony at Norwich Pharmaceuticals.

"This is the largest single capital investment since the construction of this building," said Charles Andrews, the VP of Operations at Norwich Pharmaceuticals.

AND THAT WAS 40 YEARS AGO BACK IN 1976. IN 2015, ALVOGEN HAS GIVEN IT'S SUBSIDIARY NORWICH PHARMACEUTICALS 26 MILLION DOLLARS FOR A NEW FACILITY.

"This will allow this community to add on a platform that currently doesn't have capabilities for it and readies ourselves for the future," said Chris Young, Executive VP of Global Supply Chain for Alvogen.

THAT MEANS NEW TECHNOLOGY. WITH THE NEW FACILITY COMES NEW EQUIPMENT TO CREATE THE NEXT GENERATION OF ANTIBIOTICS, DISPENSERS, AND CLEANING MATERIALS.

"To be able to have a piece of equipment like that and to be able to develop on that piece of equipment and run commercial manufacturing is the future of this facility," said Andrews.

ALVOGEN OWNS FIVE COMPANIES AROUND THE WORLD, WITH NORWICH PHARMACUETICALS BEING THE ONLY ONE IN THE UNITED STATES. AND THE COMPANY IN CHENANGO COUNTY WANTS TO CONTINUE TO PRODUCE IN THE STATES BUT ALSO EXPAND AROUND THE GLOBE.

"We have products being launched throughout 2016 and 2017. This is a boost on some of those hard to make type products where we need this technology to do it," said Andrews.

THE COMPANY HOPES THE EXPANSION WILL ALLOW IT TO DEVELOP NEW PRODUCTS.

"The focus we have is to provide the flexibility. So that the employees can actually learn different things than what they currently do and be flexible throughout the equipment and new equipment," said Andrews.

THE PROJECT WILL TAKE 18 MONTHS AND NORWICH PHARMACEUTICALS PLANS TO ADD NEW POSITIONS AFTER THE RIBBON CUTTING IN SEPTEMBER OF 2016.
