Start Up NY Continues to Create Jobs Despite Criticism
After a report showing the state's Start Up New York program created just 76 jobs in 2014 spurred criticism of the program, Governor Cuomo announced today 17 additional companies will create 343 new jobs in New York State through the program.
Thirty-nine of those new jobs will be housed at Binghamton University thanks to two companies: BACEApp Corporation and Lightspin Technologies.
Start Up NY offers companies ten years of tax-free space on SUNY campuses and other select areas.
According to the Empire Center for Public policy last year the state spent about $53 million in advertising for the program so far, with $50 million allotted in the 2015-16 budget.
