BU Women's Lacrosse falls in Season Finale to Canisius 12-8

VESTAL, N.Y.—The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (6-11, 1-5 America East) lost their regular season finale to the Canisius Golden Griffins (12-5, 8-0 MAAC) 12-8 at the Bearcats Sports Complex today.

"I thought that our defensive performance in the first half was outstanding and was something we were able to hang our hats on," remarked head coach Stephanie Allen. "We were able to give us a couple extra offensive possessions just based off of plays and caused turnovers."

The Bearcats opened the game with a Brianne Arthur goal just over two minutes into the action. That was all of the scoring for BU in the first half, as they held Canisius to three at the break.

"Overall defensively today we had a pretty solid day with the exception of a couple minutes here and there," admitted Allen. "We just need to be valuing the ball and taking care of our shot execution."

The Golden Griffins opened the second half with seven straight points, but the Bearcats refused to give in, scoring seven of the final nine goals.

Sophia Racciatti got the Bearcats started with a goal at 16:07. It was her 20th of the season, and 50th of her career. Soon after, Tiffany Ryan and Brianne Arthur scored via free-position shots. After a Canisius goal, Racciatti scored again. Then a pair of seniors—Renee Kiviat and Brianna Russo—scored in their final collegiate game. Arthur then tallied her third goal of the game off of a pass from Callon Williams to close out her 2015 season with a hat trick.

Allie Rodgers caused two more turnovers, giving her 26 for the season, a program record. Rodgers broke the record of 25, held by Beth Moore in 2010.

"Allie has really fallen right into that role on the defensive end," stated Allen. "We couldn't be more proud of her work ethic, and more importantly her game play this season."

The Bearcats went 6-11, ending 2015 with the second most wins in program history.
