Sentencing for Matthew Libous Postponed

The sentencing for Matthew Libous, son of State Senator Tom Libous, for tax fraud has been postponed until May18th.

Matthew Libous was originally supposed to receive his sentence on April 19th.

Senator Libous and other family members have written Judge Vincent Briccetti asking for leniency in sentencing.

The senator references his cancer, which is incurable, and says his biggest fear is that his son would be placed in prison as his health continues to deteriorate and unable to spend time with him in his last days.

Senator Libous is set to stand trial in July for a charge of giving a false statement to an FBI agent.

Libous has said he is innocent of that charge.
