Prospect Mountain Construction to Cause Lane Closures

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced that pavement repair and sign structure work will be performed within the Prospect Mountain construction project in the City of Binghamton and the Town Dickinson.

On Monday, April 20, the two right lanes of Route 17 eastbound between the Airport Road exit (71) and the Front Street exit (72) will be closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Wednesday, April 22.

Monday through Friday, April 24, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Prospect Street will have periodic, alternating lane closures between Mygatt Street and Front Street as crews repair pavement. Flag personnel will guide traffic though the work zone.

Monday through Friday, April 24, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Front Street will have periodic, alternating lane closures between Prospect Street and Bevier Street for pavement repairs. Flag personnel will guide traffic through the work zone.

Tuesday, April 21 through Friday, April 24, the left lane on Interstate 81 southbound will be closed between the Route I-81 southbound/SR-17 westbound split and Binghamton exit (4). Crews will working to widen the roadway for a future traffic pattern switch.

On Wednesday, April 22, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Front Street will have alternating lane closures between the Route 17 eastbound Front Street exit (72) off-ramp and Bevier Street to provide access for concrete trucks that will pour concrete for the I-81 northbound bridge deck over the Chenango River.

Each of these procedures will be done weather permitting. Motorists are reminded to be alert for flag personnel, slow moving traffic and sudden stops.
