Governor Announces 35% Increase in Distracted Driving Tickets
Governor Cuomo has announced that thanks to several initiatives aimed at reducing distracted driving, law enforcement officials are issuing more tickets to people texting while behind the wheel.
Cuomo has announced that statewide from 2013 to 2014 police have issued 35 percent more tickets for texting while driving. In 2014, over 75,000 tickets were issued for texting while driving, up from almost 56,000 in 2013.
Just last week, Governor Cuomo announced the latest initiative called "Operation Hang Up" which continues through Wednesday.
Motorists caught texting and driving face up to a $450 fine and five points on their license.
