Visions Federal Credit Union Holds Shredding Event

Officials are talking about the importance of shredding those unwanted documents.

Visions Federal Credit Union held a free shredding event Saturday in three different locations; Endwell, Sayre and Owego.

Bank statements, bills and social security numbers were all destroyed by Confidata trucks.

The idea is to drop off all those needless documents so they can be disposed of properly in order to prevent fraud on your account.

Visions workers volunteered to work the event. Organizers say they just want to make sure your information is not being used by someone else.

"Throughout the year, take a box, throw all of your important paperwork into that box and when you see that we advertise that we're doing this, just bring it down and we will shred it for you," said Visions Federal Credit Union manager Kay Murray.

Visions holds the shredding event twice a year. The next one will be in October.
