Army Veteran Plans Endicott Mayoral Run

By Jason Weinstein.
A retired army veteran returning to his hometown is now looking to run for Mayor of Endicott.

Carl Blevins is a 1996 graduate of Union-Endicott High School who spent 17 years in the Army, including tours in Iraq. He says the village has gone downhill since his days growing up in Endicott. He would like to take the overtime spent in all departments and use it to hire more police. Current two-term Mayor John Bertoni says overtime spending has gone down on his watch and he tries to provide as much public safety as possible while keeping an eye on taxes.

"I will be working closely with the Endicott Police Department implementing some plans, giving them some ideas, kicking around what we could possibly do to make things better," said Blevins.

"I'd like more, too. The number one concern is certainly public safety. But on the other hand the other number one concern is taxes. And every time you add something it's more taxes," said Bertoni.

Blevins is planning to run as an independent in November. He is awaiting state regulations to see how many signatures he needs to gather to be on the ballot.
