Assemblywoman Lupardo's Reaction to State Budget

Binghamton University and SUNY Broome will gain millions from the upcoming state budget.

BU is slated to get $50 million for it's new pharmacy school and almost 12 and a half million to renovate the castle on the campus of the Greater Binghamton Health Center.

Meanwhile SUNY Broome will get $5 million to convert the Carnegie Library in downtown Binghamton to a new culinary school. Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo also shared details on the $1.5 billion upstate revitalization fund.
The money is being included in the annual regional economic development council competition. This means the Southern Tier can still compete for a $500 million prize, but won't come away with nothing if it falls short.

"Three regions will win $500 million over five years. The Southern Tier we expect will win so $100 million will come that first year. But they're also eligible to apply for other grants so they may be eligible for up to $130 million," said Lupardo.

Lupardo says for the rest of the legislative session she will look to reduce the emphasis on state test results as part of New York's teacher evaluation system
