Sunday Cordisco's Chess Center held the second part of its 6th annual Broome County Chess Championship, the Francis Cordisco Memorial Tournament, named after John Cordisco's brother who passed away four years ago.
The event brought in 12 nationally-rated participants who competed in higher and lower ranking sections for first, second and third place cash prizes.
John Cordisco said,"This tournament here is nationally rated with the US Chess Federation, so that's where the numbers went down a little bit. But I'll tell you the truth, the quality of play, the quality of players for a county this small is very high."
Four players came in first place Sunday evening. Winners were awarded a total of $500 in prize money.
