Parade Day Run Encourages Fitness in Southern Tier

Posted:
Before the parade festivities kicked off runners laced up their sneakers for the inaugural parade day mile race.
For just $17 runners started outside the Broome County Public Library toward the parade route. The goal: to encourage fitness in the Southern Tier.

Matthew Gawors, Race Director of the Parade Day Mile said, "Fitness beforehand and getting out and exercising gets your body going and you can celebrate the rest of the day. We're really excited to see costumes and everyone is super excited to be out here on parade day."

There were two sessions, including more than 200 runners. Cash prizes were given to runners with the best costume and all participants over the age of 21 were treated to a free beer from the Belmar Pub after the race!
Race directors say they plan to hold another run before next year's parade.
