Sina named AEast Rookie of the Year; Watkins joins All Rookie Team

VESTAL, N.Y. – Freshman point guard Jasmine Sina has been named the America East Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year. The announcement was made at the conference's annual banquet on Friday evening at the Events Center, which precedes the start of its championship tournament.

Sina is the third Binghamton player to be named the America East Rookie of the Year. She joins Andrea Holmes (2009) and Jasbriell Swain (2011).

Currently, Sina leads the Bearcats with 14.7 points per game, which ranks fifth in the America East. It is the highest scoring average by a Binghamton player since Rachel Laws also averaged 14.7 points during the 2003-04 season. Furthermore, Sina's total represents the highest average by an America East rookie since Chantel Alford scored 14.9 points during the 2009-10 campaign.

Sina's scoring average is the second-best total by a freshman in Binghamton program history, trailing only Alicia Brennan's 16.0 points per game in 1986-87. In addition, she is currently tied with Laws for the 13th-highest scoring average in program history.

With 2.9 three-point field goals per game, Sina is currently ranked No. 13 in the latest NCAA Division I statistics. In addition, she ranks eighth among all NCAA Division I freshmen in scoring.

Sina was named the America East Rookie of the Week a conference-best five times this season (Dec. 1, Dec. 29, Jan. 5, Feb. 2 and Feb. 9).

Joining Sina on the America East All-Rookie Team is fellow freshman guard Imani Watkins. She heads into the America East Tournament ranked No. 10 in the conference with 13.4 points per game. Watkins was named the America East Rookie of the Week three times this season (Nov. 17, Nov. 24 and Jan.

The America East Women's Basketball Tournament is being held at the Binghamton University Events Center this weekend. The Bearcats are the No. 8 seed and face top-seeded Maine on Saturday at noon.
