Freeze Out 5K Raises Awareness for Homelessness

Posted:
More than 100 runners and walkers braved the cold Saturday morning at SUNY Broome raising awareness for homelessness.

The 2nd annual Freeze Out 5-K raises money for the Binghamton Rescue Mission. Organizers chose to hold the race during the coldest time of the year to remind participants of what men and women without proper shelter experience on a daily basis.

Binghamton Rescue Mission Program Manager Michael Ross said, "It's a fun way to bring the community together but it's also a good way to help people be aware of homelessness and raise money to end it here in Broome County. We're more of a rural area outside of the city so people don't always see homelessness as you would in a larger city."

The event raised more than $15,000 for the Binghamton Rescue Mission. If you didn't make it out to the race but still would like to help out you can donate....just head to www.freezeout5k.com.
