Boeing Collaborates with BAE Systems to Provide REU for Aircraft
Boeing is teaming up with BAE systems for new aircraft equipment.
The collaboration announced Tuesday will allow BAE to provide remote electronics units for 777X aircraft. BAE has provided Boeing with weapon control systems for military and commercial airplanes for more than 60 years.
Officials explain the new remote electronic units will control units on the aircraft's tail and wings.
Director of BAE Air Transport Programs Andy Corea said, "On a fly-by-wire aircraft there are actuators that control the aircraft surfaces and control the electronic signals. And below the electronic signals and below the electronics located close to those actuators are on the wing and the tail of the aircraft which provide direct control to those actuators."
The 777X is scheduled to begin production in 2017 and the first delivery is scheduled for 2020.
