St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church Selling Pirohi in Observation of Lent
This week marks the beginning of Lent which means a favorite dish is back in the kitchen and in the spotlight.
St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church on Clinton Street in Binghamton launched their 52nd annual pirohi sales on Friday. Church members and community volunteers spent the day hand pinching potato and cabbage pirohi's for a fresh lenten treat that has been expanded to multiple generations.
Fr. James Dutko, Pastor at St. Michael's said, "It's just sort of grown since the years's have gone by. Some of the people making the pirohi were there in those days but many of them are the children and grandchildren of those people who loved this food. Of course it's lenten season and people eat a lot of this kind of food during lent."
You can eat lunch in the church hall or you can call your order in ahead of time by calling 729-0261.
