Prosecution Witnesses Continue Testimony in Cal Harris Trial

Posted:
Cal Harris' mistress was one of 3 witnesses called by the State on Wednesday as testimony continues in the trial of Cal Harris. The Town of Spencer man is charged with the murder of his estranged wife Michele who disappeared in September 2001. Our Beth Russo was in the Schoharie County courtroom and joins us with more.

On Wednesday Constance Guthier told District Attorney Kirk Martin that she met Cal while working at his car dealership, but it wasn't until after she had a new job that she began her sexual relationship with him,

At the end of May 1999 Guthier testified that she and Cal would meet up multiple times a week and that her relationship with him continued on and off even after Michele's disappearance in 2001.

Guthier told Martin that on September 29th, less than a month after Michele's disappearance, she spent the night with cal at his home. Guthier did testify that she knew Michele was missing, and she said that when she told Cal she was nervous to be at the house in case Michele came home, Cal said Michele would not be home that night.

However when questioned by Barket during cross examination, that same scenario was painted in a different light. Guthier testified that Cal said she shouldn't be nervous about being at the house, because it was so late at night that even if Michele were to come home, it wouldn't be at that hour.

Michele's sister-in-law Shannon Taylor also took the stand.
During her testimony she recalls one specific phone call she made to Michele, when she says she could hear Michele pleading for Cal to stay away from her.

She says Cal could be heard in the background telling her to hang up the phone. Taylor says when Michele tried to leave the home Cal blocked her car into the garage using his truck.

Cross examination of Shannon Taylor is set to continue Thursday morning at 10.
