City Council Discusses Noise Ordinance

Posted:
The city of Binghamton is looking to strengthen it's noise ordinance.

On Tuesday council member Terri Rennia talked about how the city's noise ordinance is measured using the decibel system, but says the city's meter needs some updating and workers need training. Rennia says this could cost the city up to 10-thousand dollars. Some council members want to address Mayor David with how the city will come up with the funds.

"The noise ordinance was originally changed to include the measuring of decibels with the purchase of the meter back in 2003. But it hasn't really been kept up on and so we recognized again 3 or 4 years ago that this has become a problem because you can't talk about this meter if you don't have the meter to use," said Teri Rennia, City Councilwoman.

Council members hope to discuss the funding for the maintenance meter before the next work session on March 2nd.
