First Witness Done Testifying at Harris Trial

Posted:
Former Harris family nanny Barbara Thayer questioned by the defense and the prosecution as cross and redirect examinations conclude during the third day of testimony in the trial of Cal Harris. This is the third trial for Harris who is charged with the murder of his estranged wife Michele who disappeared in September of 2001.

In his opening argument district attorney Kirk Martin argued that Cal tried to completely erase Michele from the Harris house hold after her disappearance, but according to defense attorney Bruce barket that's not the case. Barket says that the Harris household remains a shrine to Michele even now, 14 years after her disappearance.

During today's cross examination Barbara Thayer identified pictures of Michele from the Harris home as well as a letter that Michele wrote to her children which the defense says was preserved by Cal.

But during her testimony Tuesday, Thayer says she recalls all pictures of Michele being removed from their display locations in the home shortly after her disappearance.

Thayer testified that while she never observed physical abuse between Cal and Michele they were verbally abusive to one another.

Barket continued to to pick at inconsistencies in Thayer's testimony from prior proceedings and the testimony she gave during last weeks direct questioning. At one point the defense specifically pointed out inconsistencies between testimony and notes Thayer recorded in a notebook to help her remember the events around the time of Michele's disappearance.
