Thomas just having fun in senior year

BU Left Fielder Jake Thomas is the biggest bat remaining in the Bearcats lineup and once again one of the most feared hitters in the league. Last year as a junior, he was second in the conference in home runs and 5th in RBI. He was named to the First Team All-Conference after earning the same honors as a sophomore and being named to the All-Rookie team as a freshman.

Tim Sinicki's program has seen 17 players in the last 9 years be drafted or signed by a Major League Baseball organization. Last June, outfielder Bill Bereszniewicz was drafted by Dodgers. This year, Thomas represents the best chance for this year's team to send someone to the next level. Despite the likelihood of having scouts watching him all season, Thomas isn't concerned with that.

"We realize that such a fun great thing is coming to an end, so I think the best way I'm looking at it and I know they are too is just taking each day is the last day we're going to be playing baseball," Thomas said. "You never know when actually it will end whether it's this year or 2-3 years. You never know, so I'm just having fun with it."

"I think when people get in trouble is when they try to do too much and they get outside their comfort zone, try to be someone they're not," Sinicki said. Jake just needs to play the game. Jake is good enough to play professionally baseball and I say that with 100% confidence. He just needs to go out and take care of that type of situation and let the pro [scouts] go from there."

Thomas starts his senior season as the Bearcats head south on Friday to take on Auburn in a three-game series.
