How far would you go to save your furry friend?

An Endicott man braved frigid waters to rescue a dog in danger.

Ryan Ellsworth and his girlfriend were on their way to Syracuse when she spotted a dog in Owego Creek off Route 38.

"It wasn't moving at all. It'd turn its head and that's about it. It had its two front feet on the ice but belly down was in the water," says Ryan Ellsworth.

He says he pulled over knowing the only option was to wade into the icy water and retrieve the dog.

Ellsworth says, "When we got down there I didn't really think twice about going in. My adrenaline was going."

According to Ellsworth when he reached the dog, he lifted the 80 pound Labrador retriever mix from the ice and carried it through thigh deep water back to his truck.

"I don't know if it was the coldness getting to me but I haven't felt that drained in a while," says Ellsworth.

Later that same day Ellsworth returned the pooch to it's home in Berkshire.

When asked about this valiant act, Ellsworth says he's just glad he could help.

"I don't really consider myself a hero. I just hope someone would do the same if my dogs were in that position," says Ellsworth.
