Panel Discusses Energy Initiatives

Several energy initiatives and projects are underway throughout the Southern Tier to reduce costs, improve efficiency and enhance sustainability.

Thursday at Binghamton University's Downtown Center a panel of speakers representing both the public and non profit sectors gave presentations about their area of expertise.

Topics included converting waste to energy, lighting upgrade projects and solar energy.

A group of Cornell University employees were there to talk about the importance of energy reduction and how it relates to our future.

"We believe it's particularly important for our higher education to take on the challenge of doing some of the research and demonstration and scalable projects to lead the way for the rest of the state," said Sarah Zemanick, Director of Campus Sustainability at Cornell.

This was the third of a four part series on energy. The last one will be held on March 5 at the University's Downtown Center.
