Educational Forum in Advance of Public Hearing about NYS Energy Policies

Posted:
Environmentalists from the Southern Tier gathered tonight at the Broome County Public Library for an educational forum.

They're getting ready to take part in next week's public hearing by the state's Public Service Commission as they gather input on how to make New York a renewable energy leader.

The PSC is overhauling its energy policy and its known as "reforming the energy vision." Environmentalists say they want a democratically controlled energy system where the state works with communities to transition New York to clean renewable energy.

"That the planning should be done at the community level and at the state wide government level to really ensure that New Yorkers are driving this transition and that the interests of multinational corporations and that the investor owned utilities are not driving this process," said the Program Director for Alliance for Green Economy.

The Public Service commission has scheduled its public hearing for next Thursday at 6:00pm at the Binghamton City Council chambers.
