Fundraising has begun for the 26th Annual Southern Tier Heart Walk

The Southern Tier Heart Walk is still over two months away, but on Wednesday night organizers met at SUNY Broome to kick off this year's event that aims to keep Southern Tier residents heart healthy.

Volunteers, team captains, and corporate donors came together to officially kick off fundraising for the 26th annual Southern Tier Heart Walk. Organizers say this year's goal is to raise 250 thousand dollars which will help fund lifesaving research, education and advocacy programs.

"I think that everybody knows about the American Heart Association and I truly believe that if everybody thinks about it they know somebody that's been impacted by heart disease or a stroke. It really is a community event because it just touches everybody's lives and touches everybody in the community," said Heart Walk Chairman, Howie Meller.

The Southern Tier Heart Walk is scheduled for Sunday, April 12th at it's new location, the SUNY Broome Ice Center.
