Lourdes Youth Services Receives Grant To Help End Youth Violence
A Grant received by Lourdes Youth Services will bring nearly $1 million to the City of Binghamton to combat youth violence.
Lourdes received one of the nine grants awarded nationally by the U.S Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services. $325,000 per year for three years will create a new program aimed at preventing violence among middle school- age students. Those at Lourdes say prevention is the key to ending youth violence.
Nancy Frank says, "By the time a child is in the juvenile justice system, many times it's too late. We're really looking at getting the kids before they're in the juvenile justice system and mitigating some of those risk factors."
The new Binghamton Community and Schools Together Program will include school, police, and family engagement components. The program will begin next month.
