Our Samantha Bleiweis was in Schoharie for a hearing and has more.

One of the biggest murder trials in New York State in a decade is set to begin in the small village of Schoharie, a locality with fewer than 1,000 people.

"We're figuring that this is gonna bring quite a few people in here, it's gonna bring a lot of news media we believe," said Toni Desmond, Schoharie County Sheriff.

53 year old Owego businessman Cal Harris is facing his third murder trial for the disappearance of his estranged wife Michele Harris in September of 2001. Harris has been convicted twice, with both convictions overturned, the first conviction set aside in 2007 the second in 2009. But with the trial in Judge George Bartlett's courtroom expected to last until late February, this small village may see some changes.

"Store owners and Schoharie County officials say that this area in particular was hit hard by the 2011 flood. and having a trial here of this caliber will help small businesses who are still trying to recover."

"Wintertime is a rough time for restaurants and a lot of businesses really.
We're still just starting to pickup from surviving the flood.so it'd be awesome, any little pick me up."

In a hearing on Wednesday, court officials estimated that jury selection should take between 3-5 days, and the trial could last into February and possibly March. The trial is scheduled to be held Monday through Thursday, to accommodate for both media and counsel travel.
