Senator Libous Son Waives Right to Jury Trial

The son of State Senator Tom Libous has waived his right to a trial by jury, instead opting for a trial by judge.

According to a court document filed by a United States district court in the Southern District of New York, Matthew Libous' bench trial began Tuesday. Libous is charged with one count of obstructing the administration of the tax laws, which carries a maximum sentence of three years’ jail time, and five counts of subscribing to false tax returns, each of which carries a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment.
