Hundreds of Gifts Collected in SUNY Broome's Giving of Toys Event

SUNY Broome's Giving of Toys event works towards one goal each year: making sure less fortunate children receive a holiday gift.

In its 20th year, the event still has as much holiday spirit as ever. Thursday morning, more than 60 of the the school's organizations, including offices, clubs and athletic teams, presented gifts to Santa at the Student Center. Many gave items matching their group. For example, Broome's basketball teams donated basketballs for the children.

“We want everyone to have that opportunity, and have that feeling Christmas morning of having gifts under the tree. And for someone less fortunate, it’s really nice that we’re able to do this for them,” said SUNY Broome Sophomore Lucille Dellos.

“It’s a great lesson for our students, administrators and offices. And I think it’s a way for the community to know that we care,” said SUNY Broome Director of Student Activities Jason Boring.

Broome Toys for Tots received the hundreds of gifts like teddy bears, dolls and bicycles. The organization will distribute them into the community.
