The Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce held it's annual labor and 'employment law update seminar at Traditions at Glen Tuesday. The annual seminar serves to inform local business owners on up to date regulations and policies in layman's terms so they can better protect their personal assets.

"It's great that you're able to sit down with these professionals and stay up to date on the issues, but theres also some concern going forward and what they have to devote to, some of these mandates and laws in future years." said Brendan O'Bryan, Manager of Government Relations, Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce

Tuesday's update included a wide range of topics, including cyber security, social media and workplace rules, medical marijuana, prescription drugs at work and many more.

"Really the most important one for all the small businesses is to understand the minimum wage hikes that are gonna happen. December 31st, the minimum wage for both exempt and non-exempt employees goes up. There's also been an increase in the minimum wage for tipped employees, and there's an extra increase for fast food workers." - Dawn Lanouette, Partner with Hinman, Howard & Kattell Lawfirm.
