Update: Shooting Near Syracuse University Leaves One Teen Dead

The Syracuse Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred at 148 Hope Ave on October 14th 2015 at about 7:20 pm. A Syracuse Police detective in an unmarked police vehicle was in the area of Hope Ave, due to recent shots fired in area. At about 7:20 pm the detective heard shots being fired on Hope Ave. The detective began to follow what he believed to be the suspect vehicle. As the vehicle turned onto Moore Ave, the detective followed. Occupants of the suspect vehicle fired several shots at the detective’s vehicle. The suspects then exited the vehicle and fled into Oakwood cemetery. With the assistance of several other agencies, the cemetery was searched, but did not result in the suspects being located. As this was occurring, Officers were dispatched to 148 Hope Av for a shooting. Upon the Officer’s arrival, they found a 17 year old male suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg, and a 15 year male deceased on the rear porch of the residence. The 17 year old victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital where he was treated for his non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses on scene believe gunshots were fired from a vehicle at the victims who were on the porch of 148 Hope Ave. There is no suspect description available at this time. The deceased 15 year old victim is not being identified pending notification of next of kin.
The detective involved in the incident was not injured. Anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at 442-5222. All calls will be kept confidential.

Wednesday Night's report:
Authorities are investigating a shooting near the Syracuse University campus. Fox 40 can confirm that one teen is dead after the incident. Syracuse police say that they are now looking for a suspect.

One teen is also reportedly suffering non-life threatening injuries as a result of the shooting. The incident took place on Hope Avenue in Syracuse. The suspects fled in a car, detectives followed them in a car. The suspects reportedly fired shots at the detectives.

Detectives were not injured. We can confirm that the incident is not affiliated with the University. Though, Syracuse University initially put out an Orange Alert, but it was cancelled eventually.

The suspects are said to have driven to Oakwood Cemetery after the chase. They have not been located at this hour. A perimeter has been set up around the cemetery.
