Binghamton's Boys and Girls Club now has a new multi-purpose room.

Wednesday the club held a ribbon cutting to open the new 1,920 square foot space. According to officials renovations have been underway since June -- thanks to a $225,000 grant from the Dr. G. Clifford and Florence B. Decker Foundation.

Officials highlight the number one goal of the facility is academic success.

"Now with this beautiful new education center multi purpose room we can fit 30 or 40 children in here, they can be doing their homework they can read in a quiet area. They can get tutoring and mentoring and they're preparing themselves and they're realizing how important education is," said Executive Director Mary Beth Smith.

The room can be divided into three different rooms or opened up into one large room, thanks to a $58,000 donation by board member Samuel Pejo some of the space will be used for a three-year drama program.
