Vestal High School Principal Placed on Administrative Leave

Posted:
The principal of Vestal High School has been placed on administrative leave after the district says she is requesting retirement benefits beyond which she is entitled to.

In a letter to school parents dated March 23rd Vestal Superintendent Mark LaRoach said Catherine Hepler informed him on March 19th of her intent to retire on May 1st of this year.

He wrote the next day she sent a letter to high school faculty about her reasons to retire two months before the end of the school year. This letter, wrote LaRoach, contained a number of inaccuracies. He wrote Hepler's letter had disparaged the district in her efforts to gain the retirement benefits. When reached Tuesday, the district had no comment on Hepler being placed on administrative leave.

A message for Hepler has not been returned. Al Penna is listed on the district's website as Vestal High School's interim principal.
