City Council Meeting Highlighted Two Topics Monday Night

Posted:
The Binghamton City Council met tonight for two different purposes.

A Special Business Meeting was held January 12 at City Hall to approve a resolution that would authorize the city's acceptance of New York state homes and community renewal home improvement grant. The grant will be available to city residents for minor repairs to their homes and it will allow them to stay in their homes affordably... Grants range in value from $4,000 to $20,000 which residents can apply for.

The Municipal and Public Affairs Committee also met tonight to review the city's noise ordinance. Representatives said that they realized the law was outdated and unclear. One Councilwoman says she's pleased with the progress the council made on both fronts.

"It's a program we've had for a long time this is just a big boost to the program. So it's for $350,000 and it will go through December of 2016.Things are cleaned up, things will take effect immediately and it will be easier for businesses and folks to understand what is and isn't allowed," said Teri Rennia, Council Member, 3rd District.

The City Council will take a vote on the noise ordinance at the next business meeting.
