Gaming Commission to Re-Consider Southern Tier for Casino License

Posted:
The State Gaming Facility Location Board says it plans to discuss reopening the application process for a second casino license in the southern tier.

Last month, the board had the ability to recommend up to 4 casino licenses in the state, including one in the southern tier region.

However, they only recommended that 3 locations receive them, including one in Seneca County, another in Sullivan County and the other in Schenectady County.

Applicants for the Southern Tier Region included Tioga Downs in Nichols, Traditions at the Glen in the Town of Union and Lago Resort in Seneca County.

However, after push back from local leaders stating that the true Southern Tier was overlooked, Governor Cuomo asked the gaming commission to reopen bidding for our area.

Today the commission said they are willing to entertain the governor's request. Since the awards were made, Traditions has decided to support Tioga Downs in their bid for a license.

"This area right here was the most depressed in the Southern Tier/Fingerlakes region. So, hopefully we are going to be able to enhance the project that Tioga had and make it a win for this are," said Bill Walsh, Owner of Traditions at the Glen.

The board plans to meet next week in Manhattan to discuss the issue.
